Create-a-Shake

In my last post, I forgot to mention one really awesome breakfast and snack option: a shake. This is also fabulous for kids, especially if you--or they--have a hard time consuming some of the nutritious stuff on it's own--hide it in a fruit-and-creamy concoction, and it's kind of like that song from Mary Poppins: "A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down..."

Basic Ingredients:

1 frozen banana
Other frozen fruit (I like blueberries, strawberries or mixed berries, but have also been known to throw in frozen pineapple or papaya)
1 tbsp. flax oil
1 tbsp. extra-virgin coconut oil
1 tbsp. raw honey (If using a less-sweet fruit than blueberries, add a titch more honey)
1 cup kefir or coconut milk
Flavouring: 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract or 1 tbsp. cocoa or carob powder

Add-ins (depending on nutritional requirements:)

1/2 tsp. - 1 tbsp. bee pollen
1/2 tsp. nutritional yeast (for B vitamins)
1 tbsp. flax seed (helps with constipation)
1 free-range or Omega-3 egg (protein and omega-3 fatty acids)
1-2 tbsp. Homemade Whey (protein)
1/2 tsp. acerola powder (vitamin C)
1/2 tsp. cod liver oil (Vitamins A and D)
1/2 tsp. high-vitamin butter oil (vitamin A, X-factor--Vitamin K)
1/2 tsp. acidopholus ("good" bacteria for your gut, to prevent growth of candida albicans)
Few drops liquid mineral supplement or small amount azomite powder

Blend until smooth, and enjoy!
